Reflecting on our 2018 Highlights

Posted: Friday, January 04, 2019

An Orchid employee receiving the Firefighter of the Year Award, taking the Orchid logo around the world, and Orchid being featured on television; these are just a few of our favorite memories from 2018. Before we say goodbye to the past year, we’re taking a trip down memory lane by reflecting on our most memorable moments. Here are some of the moments we’ll be reminiscing about:

Orchid Employees Go Above and Beyond

Our employees are known for making an impact in their communities, and this past year was no different. In February, the Bridgeport, MI facility received the Economic Excellence Award for Outstanding Economic Investment in 2017 from Saginaw Future. Later that month, the facility’s Production Manager, Aaron Benkert, received the Taymouth Township Firefighter of the year award. Then in April, six Sheffield, U.K. employees ran the Sheffield Half Marathon Team Challenge and raised funds for the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.

Local Events and Activities

Our facilities held various events for its employees and community throughout the year, and some of our favorites came from our Bridgeport, Lansing and Milford locations. The Bridgeport, MI facility brought in The Cappuccino Man, a gourmet coffee catering service, to prepare energizing drinks for its employees and to thank them for all their hard work. In March, the Lansing, MI facility purchased a structure and offered it to the Delhi Township Fire Department for training exercises. Over 15 volunteer firefighters and support staff practiced structure fire search and rescue before the structure's demolition. Then Milford, CT employees participated in Red Nose Day by wearing a red nose to work. By smiling and having fun, the campaign raised money for children and young adults living in poverty.

Orchid Employees Travel Around the World

Whether employees traveled for business or pleasure, we encouraged them to take a picture with the Orchid logo so we could see all the different places its traveled to. Here are some of our favorite photos of where the logo traveled, and check out our Instagram and Facebook page to see even more.

Guest Speaker Opportunities

Throughout 2018, multiple opportunities were provided for Orchid’s executive team to speak about the company and provide their expertise. Jerry Jurkiewicz, Chief Executive Officer, was a guest speaker at the IMPLANTS  conference in Paris, France where he spoke about trends, strategies and Orchid’s positioning in the contract manufacturing landscape. Then at the Orthopaedic Manufacturing and Technology Exposition and Conference (OMTEC) in Rosemont, IL, he gave the opening remarks at Orchid’s sponsored keynote speaker breakfast. Bill Ditty, Vice President of Quality Assurance and Compliance, also spoke at OMTEC when he joined a panel discussion.

Lights, CAMERA, Action

Orchid was featured in and created multiple videos in 2018. The Lansing facility made the news when it was featured on WILX News 10 for its participation in National Manufacturing Day. Altor Equity Partners released a video highlighting our partnership and achievements together. We were also mentioned in the Saginaw Future 26th Annual Awards video for our contribution to increased investments and job creation in Saginaw County. Behind the camera, Orchid’s marketing team created a video about Orchid’s impact on Ray Cerekas, which can be found on our Facebook page. The video lets viewers hear how the products we manufacture helped Cerekas recover from a car accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down.

We want to thank all Orchid employees for their hard work this past year and making Orchid a world leader in the orthopedic industry. We are excited to see what we will accomplish in 2019!
