Tom grew up on a 10 acre farm next door to his grandparents’ 250 acre farm in Gregory, Michigan. “I enjoyed working on my grandparents’ farm and other farms in the community. My grandfather was a metallurgical scientist at the Ford Rouge Plant and taught me problem solving & machine repair on the farm.”

Chasing the Storm: Hurricane Harvey Relief in Houston

If I were to list off seemingly random numbers, stats or percentages without context they wouldn’t mean much to the average reader. Numbers like 130, 12, 2,500, 82 wouldn’t impact someone one way or another. Something that will cause people to respond is context, so let me put those numbers into context. The first number, 130 was the miles per hour the wind was blowing in Houston during hurricane Harvey, 12 is the number of years it’s been in the United States since we have seen a hurricane this destructive, 2,500 was the number of distress calls that went out during the hurricane, and 82 is the (current) recorded number of deaths. It was the meaning behind those numbers that caught my attention and called me into action.

Being told you have to have surgery can be pretty terrifying news. It can postpone plans, cause you to worry, and put you into an uneasy mood. At fourteen, most people don’t expect that they need to have surgery. Fourteen is when you start to focus on high school, friends, sports, hobbies, etc. Although all of those things were my focus at fourteen, they weren’t the only thing I was focused on. After a few orthodontist visits, my doctor informed me that I would eventually need jaw surgery.

Orchid Oregon Supports AFSP

For the month of April, Orchid's Oregon facility raised funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). Donation jars were spread throughout the facility and a silent auction took place for the last two weeks of the month. All of the proceeds went towards AFSP.

Titanium Coating on PEEK Spine Implants

Orchid’s titanium coating on PEEK differentiates us in the market. The technology was developed at Orchid Switzerland (formerly Alhenia) and is sought after by our customers for spinal implants.

The spine, or vertebral column, is a bony structure formed from the vertebrae. It consists of 24 articulating and 9 fused vertebrae in the sacrum and the coccyx. All the vertebrae are separated with an intervertebral disc composed of cartilage. It plays a very important role as a shock absorber for the impact of the body’s daily activities, and keeps the two vertebrae separated

The Vrabels: Orchid’s Annual Sales Awards

This vision birthed a new sales award to be presented to the sales employee with the territory that achieved the highest sales growth. Orchid Exhibits at Medica in Düsseldorf, Germany

Orchid exhibited at Medica 2016 in Düsseldorf, Germany for fourth time.  It is a massive show with 16 halls and hundreds of thousands of visitors, and we have found the show to be a great opportunity to speak to many new potential and existing customers from many different countries. We had over 30 customer meetings and numerous inquiries from the Middle and Far east.
