Dr. Parimal Bapat, Ph.D., Wins ASTM Award

Dr. Parimal Bapat, Ph.D., Principal Engineer – Product Innovation, at Orchid recently received the Robert E. Fairer Award from the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) International. The award relates to Parimal's work on the F04.15.08 subcommittee for coating test method and recognizes his longstanding work with ASTM and his leadership in developing standards.

Parimal has been with Orchid for 12 years. He joined when he was finishing his PhD at the University of Alabama Birmingham. Until 2017, Parimal worked as a research engineer at our Farmington Hills facility. After some organizational changes, he started reporting to the R&D and Innovation group as a lead engineer and later became a principal engineer and subject matter expert for thermal plasma spray coatings and surface treatments. 

He has been involved with ASTM for the past 10 years. He serves as a task committee chair and responds to questions or issues with test methods, makes corrections or changes to standards, and develops new standards as needed.
