The Vrabels: Orchid’s Annual Sales Awards

Posted: Wednesday, March 22, 2017
A few years ago, Orchid’s executive team had a vision to recognize employees with exceptional customer focus. This vision birthed a new sales award to be presented to the sales employee with the territory that achieved the highest sales growth. Around the time of this awards inception, one of our employees, Bill Vrabel was retiring, and to recognize Bill’s achievements with the organization, Orchid named this sales award after him.

I have been with Orchid for six years as our West Coast Sales Engineer, enjoying the successful rise of Orchid as one of the premier contract suppliers in the orthopedic industry. The Positive Impact of Hip Surgery: Video

Posted: Tuesday, August 16, 2016

We’re lucky to be in an industry that is growing and has a positive impact on people’s lives. It is especially inspiring when we have the opportunity to meet people that have been impacted by our products and services. Being able to invite them to our facilities to see part of the process that changed their lives, and the care and attention given by each of our employees is truly rewarding.

Building Healthy, Functioning Teams

Posted: Wednesday, April 13, 2016

Many of the divisions at Orchid have been working on developing better intrapersonal and interpersonal communication and team health over the last few years.  We work with an outside coach, Mark Freier, from Nexecute – a company built to help organizations grow on both the “Smart” and “Healthy” side of business.  The sites are very much aligned with the belief (as originally published by Patrick Lencioni and The Table Group) that: Smart + Healthy = Success.  Lots of books, training, and time is spent focusing on how we can be more Smart.  Within the last few years we have begun to focus on how we can also be more Healthy.

Service Before Self

Posted: Monday, April 06, 2015

We are extremely blessed to work for an organization with such a rich mission and comprehensive set of core values. Our mission is really quite incredible when you think about it: to provide the opportunity for people to live a better life. This starts at each one of our divisions with providing the opportunity for our employees to live a better life by supporting their families. By each of us taking care of what we need to in our roles, it then extends out to the other nearly 2,000 Orchid employees and their opportunity to support their families. Of course, this means that our customers can provide a similar opportunity to their employees which number in the hundreds of thousands. And finally, the end users of the products we produce (which number in the millions around the world) have regained their mobility and personal freedom – which allows them to live a fuller and better life.

Providing an Opportunity for People to Live a Better Life

When I see Orchid’s core purpose on display in each of our facilities, I struggle to comprehend the millions of end users who have received an implant that perhaps Orchid has touched at some point and the actual impact we have had to their quality of life. It is perhaps a little easier to appreciate the impact we have made when we see or read about a celebrity who has received a replacement hip or knee. The celebrity list is growing and contains names from sports to entertainment; from Presidents to Royalty. Here are a few of the famous names I am aware of: Billie Joel, Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Douglas, Jane Fonda, Billy Jean King, George Bush, The Queen of England’s mother and many more.

Enviable Environment to Work and Do Business

Posted: Monday, October 06, 2014

A very wise man once said that creating a team is one thing; creating teamwork is an entirely different matter. So how do you go from putting a group of people together and calling it a team, to fostering an environment in which individual employees (often culturally diverse) feel that, as a team, they are more meaningful and part of a greater whole? An environment where employees feel like other employees have their back? An environment in which the goals of the whole encourage extra effort as every employee recognizes their unique and absolutely necessary contribution to those goals?

Orchid's Mission

Posted: Thursday, August 07, 2014

This past June, I had the privilege to speak at OMTEC (Orthopaedic Manufacturing & Technology Exposition and Conference) in Chicago. Orchid had a great showing in that we had the largest presence with our booth and staff, we sponsored one of the breakfasts and we had three of our employees (Parimal Bapat, Christopher Norbye and Amber Lenz) participate in the conference by providing technical expertise to the industry at large.
